I came to Franciscan because I wanted a school where I would be safe but not comfortable. In other words, I wanted to get an education where I could grow academically and spiritually, where I wouldn’t have to sacrifice one for the other. At the same time, I wanted to be challenged to become the man God made me to be.

I’m a convert to Catholicism and hadn’t been Catholic for very long when I came here. I knew the basics. I knew I was supposed to be a “good person.” But I didn’t really know what that entailed. I just knew what the world said success was—being powerful, making a lot of money, having a beautiful wife. Since coming here, I’ve realized that success is about answering God’s call to love. It’s about realizing your vocation to holiness.

Since coming here, I’ve realized that success is about answering God’s call to love. It’s about realizing your vocation to holiness.

I’ve also realized how my studies and my future career fit into that vocation, and I’ve been pushed to take my work very seriously. My communication arts classes have especially challenged me to see the work I’m doing now in light of my future. I’ve learned I can’t settle for mediocrity, and I’m receiving the tools I need to do high quality professional work.
