Spanish Position Available

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS) invites applications for a full time, tenure track position in Spanish to begin August 2014.

The successful candidate must possess an appropriate Ph.D. or Ed.D. at the time of employment, be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, and support the Mission of the university. The successful candidate will specialize in foreign-language education and teach all levels of Spanish language. In addition, the candidate will teach upper-level content courses in foreign-language pedagogy, second-language acquisition, and, when necessary, applied linguistics. The normal teaching load will be 12 credit hours per semester. The language of instruction in lower-level language courses and upper-division content courses will be Spanish. The language of instruction in foreign-language pedagogy courses, which may eventually include students from other language programs, will be English. Therefore the successful candidate will be fully bilingual, possessing native fluency in the one language and at least near-native fluency in the other. The successful candidate will have experience in teaching language at the secondary and/or primary levels and will create, develop, oversee and assess a new K-12 teacher licensure program in Spanish that complies with the requirements and standards of the state of Ohio, CAEP, and ACTFL. In addition to normal advising duties, the successful candidate will advise and supervise student teachers in Spanish, as well as consult with other language programs on the development of additional teacher licensure programs, and supervise student teachers in other languages as necessary. Knowledge of another language in addition to Spanish and English is helpful, but not necessary.
