Javier Carreño was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and received his primary and secondary education at the Liceo de Cervantes, a school of the Augustinian order in Bogotá. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy and English at the University of Dallas, and was awarded the Fr. Cain – St. Thomas Aquinas medal for a thesis on Aristotle’s concept of imagination. Subsequently, at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium he obtained an M.A. in philosophy with a thesis on Kierkegaard’s Philosophical Fragments; and a Ph.D. with a dissertation on Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology of imagination (Phantasie). Javier Carreño, has taught philosophy and English literature at Franciscan University of Steubenville since the Fall of 2011. Javier Carreño is married and has two children.
