The world needs compassionate, ethical counselors. Couples, families, and individuals have concerns and problems that they cannot make sense of on their own. They seek professionals who value social service and desire to help them improve their relationships.

The Graduate Counseling Program at Franciscan University will help creative, innovative men and women who are able to work autonomously become prepared for a lifetime of serving others. Our program aims to develop the professional and personal lives of students in the program and to foster a respect for human and Christian values. The program combines the learning of therapeutic counseling skills with a Christian understanding of the human person.

In a recent survey, current students at Franciscan University said that some of the best things about the counseling program are:

    • “The in-depth, hands-on activities done in the classroom” (1st year student)
    • “The bonds that are created with fellow students” (2nd year student)
    • “The unique, dynamic Christian atmosphere and devotion to the truth” (1st year student)
    • “Regardless of age, this program is manageable and very energizing.” (2nd year student)

Other students remarked that they have learned that “…to be a counselor means that we need to be able to take a hard look at ourselves before we attempt to make sense of other people’s lives or the life of a client.” (1st year student). Still others appreciated the close community experienced between professors and students.

If you share the values of the counseling profession and are looking for an opportunity to be part of an exciting group of students, professors, and practitioners, the Graduate Counseling Program at Franciscan University may be right for you!
