STEUBENVILLE—Eight young men from Franciscan University of Steubenville's Priestly Discernment Program will begin their formal journey toward priesthood or religious life this summer.
Four men will begin studies as seminarians for the dioceses of Brooklyn, New York, and the Archdiocese for Military Services; Manchester, New Hampshire; San Diego, California; and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Two will begin pre-seminary formation with the diocese of San Diego, California.
Two men will begin formal discernment with religious orders: one with the Friars Minor (OFM) and one with the Society of Jesus.
The eight graduates join the 60 men from the program who entered seminary or a religious order in the previous five years.
"We are very proud of the fidelity to prayer and the consistent hard work that these men put into their time here at Franciscan University and hope for great things from their commitment to and love of Christ and his Church," said Father Rick Martignetti, OFM, director of the Priestly Discernment Program.
Now in its 26th year, Franciscan University’s Priestly Discernment Program helps young men discern a call to the priesthood while they complete their undergraduate or graduate degrees. The program has received accolades from U.S. bishops and Church leaders for providing students with an enriching prayer life in a community setting while allowing them to be fully involved as students.
