    Franciscan University Chorale and the Schola Cantorum Franciscana

    STEUBENVILLE, OH—Usher in the Advent Season with the annual Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols at Franciscan University of Steubenville on Tuesday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel.

    This prayerful celebration features the Franciscan University Chorale and the Schola Cantorum Franciscana, under the direction of Dr. Paul Weber, Franciscan University associate professor of music. During the program, carols with be interspersed with Scripture readings to tell the story leading up to the birth of Christ.

    The service of Lessons and Carols originated in 1880 at Truro Cathedral in Cornwall, England, when the rector prepared a simple service of readings for Christmas. The Advent version of Lessons and Carols seeks to reclaim the significance of the preparatory season leading up to the Nativity with a combination of hymns and Scripture readings.

    The event is free and open to the public.
