Men’s Soccer gets first win on Senior Day, Jones Sets School Record, Volleyball Preps for AMCC Tournament

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – After losing in its first game of the week to LaRoche College on Oct. 9, the men’s soccer team won its first game of the season in thrilling fashion on Senior Day, 2-1 in overtime. Senior Joseph Krillich scored the game winner. Bill Jones continued his cross country domination at the Intra Regional Rumble on Saturday in Oberlin, Ohio, where he set a school record and personal record in the 8K with a time of 23:31 to win the race. The team placed 22nd out of 32 teams. Women’s cross country finished in 15th place out of 30 teams in its race at the Rumble, with Nicole Krajewski leading the Lady Barons with a 24th place finish. The women’s volleyball team went 2-1 on the week with two 3-0 victories over Mt. Aloysius and Chatham University, with their only loss coming at Grove City College, 3-0. Women’s soccer played two close games on the week, finishing tied 0-0 with LaRoche in double-overtime on Tuesday, and losing 2-1 to D’Youville on Saturday. Rugby lost just its second match of the year to Slippery Rock University on Saturday, 39-31, in its final regular season match of the year.

Coming up

The women’s tennis team has one more warm-up match against Waynesburg University on Tuesday in preparation for the AMCC Championship Tournament this weekend at the Oxford Athletic Club. Rugby plays host to the inaugural Three Rivers Rugby Conference semifinals and quarterfinals on Saturday. The men will play their quarterfinal game at 11 a.m. against Clarion, and if victorious they will play in the semifinal match at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of the Allegheny/Robert Morris match. Women’s soccer is three points out of a playoff spot as they sit in eighth place in the AMCC with three conference games remaining, including a game at Penn-State Altoona on Tuesday, and at Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. Men’s soccer also plays Altoona and Bradford looking to ride the momentum of their first victory of the year. Volleyball is currently in fourth place in the AMCC with four conference games remaining as they claw for a home playoff match. Volleyball also travels to Altoona on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match before traveling to D’Youville for two matches on Saturday, one against the host school and the other against SUNY Canton.
