STEUBENVILLE, OH—Six young men from Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Priestly Discernment Program will begin their formal journey toward priesthood or religious life later this summer.

Two Franciscan University 2013 graduates, John Lamansky and Michael Villanueva, will begin studies as seminarians for the dioceses of Davenport, Iowa, and Phoenix, Arizona, respectively.

Four men who completed two years at Franciscan University plan to continue their vocational paths in dioceses and religious orders. Nathan Albert and Drew Decker plan to begin studies as seminarians with the dioceses of Denver, Colorado, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, respectively. Matthew Tomeny and Dale Brewer plan to continue their vocational paths; Tomeny with the order of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception (MIC) based in Stockbridge, Massachusetts; and Brewer with the Order of Friars Minor (OFM), Immaculate Conception Province, in Boston, Massachusetts.

“I have seen these men come out of the Priestly Discernment program with a better sense of themselves and who they are in the light of their vocation. I am truly struck by the caliber of men we have in this program and this graduating class exemplifies this fully,” says Father Shawn Roberson, TOR, director of the Priestly Discernment Program.

Now in its 27th year, Franciscan University’s Priestly Discernment Program helps young men discern a call to the priesthood while pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degrees. Because following the Lord involves the whole person, Franciscan University’s program emphasizes human, academic, spiritual, pastoral, and fraternal formation. The program has received accolades from U.S. bishops and Church leaders for providing students with an enriching prayer life in a community setting while allowing them to be fully involved as students.
