Lady Barons Finish Historic Season in Semi-Finals

ERIE, PA. – Lady Baron soccer's historic season ended in a hard-fought 4-2 loss to two-time defending champion Penn St. – Behrend. Franciscan's two goals doubled the number of goals allowed all year by the Lady Lions during conference play and kept FUS in contention for most of the game. The Two goals came from team captain Julia Cocozza and brought the Lady Barons back into the game after going down 2-0 early. Unfortunately, bad luck, illness, and injuries kept the Lady Barons from being able to fully capitalize on the goals. Head Coach Claire McBane said: "I told them just don't be satisfied with this. Don't let it stop here. Let it grow and continue into next season," McBane said. "We're blessed to have good competition like Behrend to set our sights on. We didn't win but sometimes that's what you need in order to grow."

Women’s Volleyball

ERIE, Pa - Lady Barons volleyball played their final match of the season the AMCC semi-finals against number six seed Pitt-Bradford. FUS and Bradford played one of the most dramatic matches of the season as the young squads went into a fifth and final set that ended with Bradford on top 15-13 and put an early end to a promising Lady Baron season. The fifth game was dictated by momentum swings, mimicking the match as a whole. Late in the set, it looked like the Lady Barons were going to walk away with a victory after junior setter Amy O'Keefe's serve hit the foot of a Panther player and jumped out of bounds. The lucky point gave FUS a 13-12 lead, their first lead of the set. The script quickly changed, however, as Franciscan watched the lead slip out of their grasp and walked away stunned by Bradford. The Lady Barons finished with a 16-3 record in their last 19 matches. "It stings but you move on," Herrmann said. "There is a lot to feel good about."
