Staffing
Assisi Heights is staffed by a full-time professional staff member, Michael Brown - Neighborhood Coordinator, who is responsible for managing the apartment complex and fostering community. He is assisted by three Resident Assistants. The offices of the Assisi Heights Apartments are located in the community building. Office hours are as posted.
Mailboxes
Mailboxes for each apartment are provided at a central location in the Community Building. Packages may be picked up at the Community Building during posted office hours.
Assisi Heights Policies and Procedures
Franciscan University offers apartment style living to students who are at least 20 years of age and have attained junior status. Seniors are given preference for housing in Assisi Heights. We look forward to working with the residents to create a safe and welcoming environment that supports academic study and growth in Christian maturity. The following policies are in place to support these endeavors. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
Residents of Assisi Heights Apartments are expected to follow the Code of Student Conduct and all other policies established by Franciscan University as listed in the Student Handbook. As more mature students, we ask that you set an example for our younger students who will visit Assisi Heights and look to you for guidance.
Residential Living Policies for the Assisi Heights Apartments
1) Alcohol:
Assisi Height’s policies concerning the consumption of alcohol comply with the Ohio State Liquor Law. This law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 to consume possess or provide alcoholic beverages to another person. Kegs and multi-quart containers are not permitted. The amount of alcohol per apartment is limited to either two twenty-four packs OR 4 bottles of wine OR 2 bottles of liquor at any given time. For a one bedroom apartment, the limit is 1 twenty-four pack or 2 bottles of wine or 1 bottle of liquor at any given time. Residents who violate this policy will be subject to disciplinary action and may lose the privilege of having alcohol in the apartment and/or the privilege of living in Assisi Heights. Residents of Assisi Heights may have up to 8 guests present in the apartment while alcohol is being served. It is the responsibility of the apartment residents to make sure that all regulations regarding the consumption of alcohol are observed. Larger gatherings or gatherings that take place outdoors must be approved by the Neighborhood Coordinator. Open containers are not permitted outdoors without prior approval. Residents living in Assisi Heights can have alcohol on the back patio. Non-residents of the apartment are not permitted to have alcohol without approval of the Residence Director.
2) Appliances
All appliances must be UL approved. Please limit the number of appliances operating on the same circuit at the same time. Window and free standing air conditioners are not permitted. Washers and dryers are not permitted
3) Babysitting
Babysitting is not permitted in Assisi Heights Apartments.
4) Check in & Check out procedures
Residents are required to follow proper check-in and check-out procedures. The Residence Life staff will provide detailed information at the appropriate time.
5) Courtesy Hours
Students are expected to respect their fellow residents. Students are asked to comply with any request to decrease the volume of any noise at any time. The Residence Life Staff has the right to prohibit or end an activity.
6) Drug Paraphernalia
Articles normally associated with the use of illegal substances are not permitted in Assisi Heights. These include but are not limited to bongs, water pipes, hookahs, rolling papers and syringes (unless for documented medical use.)
7) Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are established to allow the residents time to study, pray and sleep. Quiet hours are as follows:
- Sunday-Thursday: 11:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m.
- Friday & Saturday: Midnight - 9:00 a.m.
8) Open House Policy
Residents are permitted to have other students in the common areas of the apartments from 11:00 a.m. until the close of the complex. This policy is designed to encourage community development. No members of the opposite sex are permitted in the bedrooms at any time. Any student who is not a resident of Assisi Heights must leave when the complex closes unless they have registered as an overnight guest. Residents who violate this policy may lose the privilege of living in Assisi Heights.
9) Cleanliness
Students are responsible to keep the apartment clean at all times. Periodic apartment inspections will be conducted.
10) Maintenance
Students are responsible for simple maintenance issues such as replacing light bulbs, plunging toilets, removing snow from the sidewalk that connects the apartment to the main sidewalk. Light bulbs are available in the RA office. Salt will be provided at the RA office during the winter months - bring your own container. Plungers and snow shovels are provided in each unit.
11) Guests
A guest is defined as any non-resident of Assisi Heights. Overnight guests must be approved by the Neighborhood Coordinator. Overnight guests of the opposite sex are not permitted. Siblings under the age of 12 are not permitted to stay overnight. Guests must be registered 24 hours in advance and may not stay more than three nights.
12) Liability
The University is not financially responsible for personal possessions lost or stolen.
Residents are encouraged to obtain renters insurance.
13) Keys
Keys are the property of the University, issued individually to each resident. Loaning or borrowing keys is prohibited. Lost keys should be reported to the resident assistants or Neighborhood Coordinator. A charge of $100.00 is assessed for a lost key.
14) Outdoor Furniture and Equipment
Grills and patio furniture are permitted. Regular house furniture is not permitted outdoors. Outdoor furniture and equipment must be kept on the concrete patio when not in use. Fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, bonfires, and swimming pools are not permitted. Students are expected to keep the area around their building letter free.
15) Landscaping
Students are permitted to have potted plants outside. These plants must remain on cemented areas. No planting is permitted.
16) Decorating
Decorations must be consistent with the mission of Franciscan University. Inappropriate posters, pictures or articles, including alcohol cans and bottles are not permitted. Decorations must also meet safety standards and not present a fire hazard. Furniture that does not meet fire code standards, straw, leaves, flammable material or live Christmas trees are not permitted in the units. Decorations must be affixed with a removable adhesive such as sticky tac or 3M command adhesive hooks. Nails, screws, metal hooks or other permanent attachments are not permitted. Items may not be hung from the ceiling. Students are not permitted to paint or affix anything permanently. Decals are not permitted.
17) SmokingAssisi Heights is a smoke free facility. Smoking is permitted outdoors only.
18) Pets
Pets are not permitted in the apartments with the exception of one ten gallon fish tank per resident.
19) Apartment Entry
While the University respects every student’s right to privacy, it reserves the right to authorize staff or maintenance personnel to enter a room at any time without prior notice for designated purposes that include but are not limited to:
- providing custodial, maintenance, or housekeeping work
- determining compliance with safety, health, and fire regulations
- responding to an indication of danger to life, health, or property
- acting on a reasonable belief that a violation of a University regulation, local ordinance, and/or state or federal regulation has occurred or is in progress
Before entering the apartment, authorized personnel will knock on the door, announce themselves, and pause for a response. If an apartment search has been authorized, any property seized at the time my be used in University disciplinary proceedings and/or turned over to local authorities.
20) Telephones
Phone service is not provided by the University. Students may use their own cell phone or contract with a local vendor. Charges must be billed directly to the student.
21) Internet Access
Internet access is not provided by the University. Students may contract with a local vendor. Charges must be billed directly to the student.
22) Cable TV
Filtered Cable TV is provided. A single drop is provided in the living room. Students are not permitted to run additional drops.
23) Trash Removal
All trash must be placed in the dumpsters located in the complex. Trash must be removed on a weekly basis.
24) Housing Deposit and Security Deposit
Each resident must pay a $250 Housing Deposit each spring either prior to, or during the Housing Fair. This serves as a reservation for space in campus housing during the next academic year. The Housing Deposit is applied to the student’s fall bill. Each Assisi Heights resident is also required to pay a $100.00 security deposit. Damages will be assessed against this deposit. Damages to common areas will be equally assessed to all the residents in the apartment unless an individual takes responsibility. Damage to the bedrooms will be assessed to the occupants of that room. If no damages are incurred, the security deposit will be returned when the student permanently moves out of Assisi Heights.
25) Occupancy
Occupancy is limited to the number of students assigned to the unit. Additional students may not occupy the unit. Units are assigned for the entire academic year. Roommate changes must be approved by the neighborhood coordinator.
26) Furniture
Each unit is provided with basic furniture. Students may bring additional furniture as long as the furniture meets fire safety standards. University furniture must remain inside the unit at all times.
27) Laundry Facilities
A coin operated laundry is located in the lower level of the community building. Individual washers and dryers are not permitted.
28) Moving Out
Students are required to move all of their personal belongings out of the apartment before checking out at the end of the year. No storage of personal items, furniture, etc. is provided by the University over the summer break. The apartment is to be left as it was found at the beginning of the year.
