Life-changing Study Abroad Opportunities.

Live and study for a semester in Gaming, Austria, just a short, enjoyable train ride from Rome, Prague, Avignon, and the whole of Europe. Spend a summer in Ávila, Spain, or a semester in Oxford, England. Or, if you’d like, work with our faculty to craft your own study abroad experience at many universities in Argentina, Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Spain, or any suitable country of your choice.

Whichever way you go, you will be forever changed by the study abroad experiences Franciscan University makes available.

Austria

Our marquee study abroad program, the Austria program brings 150-200 Franciscan students to the center of Europe every semester. Students live and learn in a 14th-century former Carthusian monastery, taking classes in English from Franciscan University professors. Copious travel opportunities make the grand heritage of Western civilization and especially of our Catholic faith come alive. It is an experience our students and alumni talk about for the rest of their lives. Learn more about the program >>

Ávila, Spain

Students studying Spanish have the opportunity to study in the medieval Spanish city of Ávila, home of the mystics St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Ávila. The Institute of Spanish Language and Culture at the Catholic University of Ávila takes place over 4 weeks in July. The credits earned count toward your Spanish studies here at Franciscan University of Steubenville. But, ¡por supuesto! the classroom courses are hardly the most compelling reason to spend a July in Ávila de España. Contact Dr. Alberto Descalzo de Blas to inquire, or learn more about the program>>

Oxford, England

If your academic interests include studying the Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern periods, our English department coordinates semesters at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Oxford University in England. Contact Dr. John Holmes in the English Department to inquire, or learn more about the program>>

Craft your own educational adventure!

Through the cooperation of our faculty members and International Studies Abroad, students are able to pursue study abroad programs in many other countries, pursuing a variety of academic interests, while drinking in the local culture. The opportunities abound, but be sure to discuss any desired study abroad opportunity with appropriate faculty members and the registrar before you start making any plans.
