STEUBENVILLE, OH —Harding Stadium will be the setting for hard-hitting football-style action as the fifth annual Robert D'Anniballe Rugby Ruckus comes to Steubenville on Saturday, April 25.
Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m., as the Franciscan University Barons take on the West Virginia University Mountaineers for what has become Franciscan University’s premiere community sports event.
The Barons last faced their West Virginia rivals in the 2006 Ruckus, losing 17-15 in a hard-fought contest. So far this season the Barons are 3-3 and are ready for a rematch.
"Rugby is 'old-school' football,” says Franciscan University Athletic Director Chris Ledyard. “It’s the way the game of football used to be played, before pads, before helmets. Each year we get a great reception for this sport from Ohio Valley fans. This Ruckus shapes up to be one of the best so far.”
Prior to the game there will be a barbeque tailgate party from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the parking lot across from Harding Stadium. The entire Steubenville community is invited to gather with alumni and friends of Franciscan University to purchase meals served up by Baby-Boyz BBQ.
General admission for the game is $5 at the gate. Admission is $3 for students with valid ID, youth 7-12, and senior citizens. Children under six are admitted free. All proceeds will benefit the Baron Rugby Football Club.
