State Authorization

All states in the U.S. require post-secondary institutions to be legally authorized to provide post-secondary educational instruction in their respective state. Many of these state laws and regulations also apply to online, distance, and correspondence educational instruction offered in that state. Because of this, Franciscan University of Steubenville and its online education programs must be authorized in certain states prior to offering those courses or programs to students residing in those states. Further, many states require post-secondary educational institutions to be legally authorized to offer internships, clinical or fieldwork experiences, and other such activities in their state.

If you have questions about state authorization at Franciscan University of Steubenville contact Joe Friona at or (740) 284-5370.

Students in our online and distance programs who have concerns about programming from Franciscan University of Steubenville should work through the proper channels with their program chair or director. Should students wish to address concerns at the state level please find the contact information for your state through the list maintained by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association.
