Campaign Needs
Finnegan Fieldhouse Expansion: $3 Million
Franciscan University is committed to educating the whole
person—mind, body, and spirit. That’s why athletics and wellness programs
are such an integral part of our campus life. Through intramural games and club
sports, as well as through personal fitness training, our students learn discipline
and
perseverance. They also learn the value of teamwork and the importance of practicing
charity in a competitive environment. These lessons are one of the reasons why Pope John Paul II described sports as “a school of virtue.”
As the University continues to grow, however, so do the demands placed on Finnegan Fieldhouse, the center of the school’s wellness initiatives. Limited space in the gymnasium, exercise studios, and locker rooms frequently creates scheduling headaches for the intramural and varsity teams competing for use of the space. Similarly, students, faculty, and staff are often turned away because the space is in use by one of the teams or because all training equipment is occupied.
In order to better promote the physical and mental well-being of students, faculty, and staff, the University’s facilities must keep pace with the school’s growth. The funds generated through this campaign will allow for exactly that, enabling the school to physically expand the space and provide additional equipment for the University community’s use.
