Leading the Renassiance

At first, Franciscan University’s approach was met with skepticism in many quarters. But as it began to bear good fruit, even the biggest skeptics became believers. From prominent stories in the mainstream press to commendations from Rome, the world began taking notice of what was happening in Steubenville.

Soon, the University began receiving phone calls from presidents and administrators at other Catholic schools—large and small, young and old—in the US, Central America, and Europe. Could we meet with them and their administrative teams to help them learn how their schools could be similarly transformed? Then came calls from those convinced God wanted them to start a Catholic college in their city. Could they model it on Franciscan?

Eventually, Franciscan University helped form a foundation—Christus Magister—to help launch new Catholic colleges in America and elsewhere. We also became regular participants in colloquiums sponsored by the Fides Et Ratio Grant Committee. These colloquiums seek to help Catholic colleges and universities better integrate faith and reason in their classrooms and on their campuses.

But ultimately, our leadership in this renaissance stems not so much from what we do, but from who we are.
