| Dr. Mary Salter Class of 1970 Professor of Mathematics I graduated from the University in 1970, when it was still the College of Steubenville. I had the opportunity to come back as a faculty member and fill a temporary opening in 1978, but 28 years later, I am still here. In 2005, the University asked me to head up its reaccreditation efforts. The responsibility was intimidating, but I learned a great deal from the experience. Perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of it was that North Central, our accrediting agency, really commended us for the way our mission was understood and lived by everyone at the University. And it really is evident the moment you step on campus—from the friendliness of the students and staff to the worship services, the wonderful attendance at daily Masses, and the eucharistic adoration in the chapel. Over the years, I’ve also learned what a terrific job the University does at helping students develop their leadership skills. Their knowledge isn’t just a bunch of facts locked away in their heads. The kids are able to take what they know intellectually and integrate that into their lives and their careers. Our students are courageous. They go out into the world and become leaders, living their faith and proclaiming it to others. I think that comes from the University’s holistic approach to education. We help the students develop intellectually, spiritually, and even physically. Our graduates are awesome. |
