Dr. James Coyle (B.A., M.A. University of Michigan; Ph.D. Kent State University) teaches courses in Video Production and Editing, Public Relations, Advertising, Church and Media, and Digital Culture Ministry.
Before joining the Franciscan University of Steubenville faculty in 1982, he worked in broadcast radio and television, cable television production, and for 12 years in corporate video and communications for a major international computer and telecommunications corporation.
Dr. Coyle was the founding producer-director of two national cable television series hosted by Fr. Michael Scanlan, TOR, Chancellor of Franciscan University. One of these series, "Franciscan University Presents," is still produced for the EWTN Catholic Cable Network. He has also produced and directed a variety of special television projects for Franciscan University and several related ministries, and is in charge of video production, podcasting, and technology support for the University's extensive summer conference apostolate.
Dr. Coyle's research encompasses instructional technology, distance learning, and digital culture ministry. He is a member of Signis - The Catholic Academy of Communication Arts Professionals; the Broadcast Education Association; and the University Film and Video Association.
