How to Apply for Financial Aid

Ready to attend an affordable Catholic college? The first thing you need to do is apply for financial aid. These step-by-step instructions support both undergraduate and graduate students; however, the amount of aid available varies by student type.

1. Complete the FAFSA^®

Applying for financial aid at Franciscan starts with submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA^®) .

To begin, gather critical documents like tax returns and bank statements. Then create your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID, and answer a few questions about your income, financial situation, and college plans.

You must also list the colleges and universities you’re considering and include their FAFSA^® school code. Franciscan University’s school code is 003036.

2. Review Your FAFSA^® Results

After submitting your application, you receive your FAFSA^® Submission Summary via email, which provides a general estimate of your aid eligibility. This is not your official financial aid offer.

3. Submit Missing Documents (If Applicable)

Sometimes, additional information may be required. In these cases, Franciscan’s Financial Aid Office will contact you by mail. Be sure to open and respond promptly to all communication so your financial aid is not delayed.

4. Receive and Review Your Official Financial Aid Offer

Once we have confirmed all your information, Franciscan will mail your official Financial Aid Award Letter outlining your complete financial aid package.

Click “Financial Aid & Student Accounts”

There, you can review your awards, submit required documents, and stay up to date on important messages, all in one place.

5. Accept Your Financial Aid

After reviewing your official aid offer, you can formally accept it. You will also have the option to accept or decline any federal student loans based on your needs.

6. Complete Loan Requirements (If Applicable)

If you accept federal student loans, you must complete two required steps to ensure you understand your responsibilities and can receive your funds:

Entrance Counseling: During this 30-minute online session, you learn about how student loans work. This includes interest rates and repayment options, as well as your rights and responsibilities and how to manage your loans wisely.

Master Promissory Note (MPN): This is a legal agreement between you and the U.S. Department of Education. By signing it, you agree to repay your loan and to the terms and conditions, including interest and repayment requirements.

These are required steps that must be completed before your loan funds can be disbursed and are available at StudentAid.gov using your FSA ID.

7. Report Additional Funding Sources (If Applicable)

If you receive any outside funding, please notify the Financial Aid Office and submit all required documentation so it can be applied to your account.

This may include:

Veterans benefits
529 college savings plans
Trusts or other external funding sources

Providing this information ensures your financial aid package is accurate and reflects your full range of resources.

This will secure your place in the residence halls and classes and is a payment towards your first bill.

While there is no deadline to place your deposit, you must deposit and mutually request your roommate for Fall 2026 by May 1st, 2026 to guarantee you'll be housed together.
