| Duties | The Sports Writer works closely with the Sports Publicity LEAD under the supervision of the Coordinator for Media Relations to cover all NCAA Division III competitions and other athletic events as assigned. The writer is responsible for following the proper AP guidelines and department writing procedures to effectively cover all home and away competitions of his or her assigned beat. Must attend a weekly media relations team meeting. |
| Qualifications | The applicant must be self-motivated, disciplined and creative in order to effectively work in a fast-paced, entrepreneur-style environment. Must have excellent time management skills as well as the ability to meet strict deadlines. Effective communications skills with students and university staff is essential. Thorough knowledge in AP writing style and collegiate sports statistics, as well as solid writing abilities is essential. Students studying Communication Arts or English are ideal. A portfolio of previous published writings is preferred. Experience in collegiate athletics is also preferred but not necessary. Must be available to work evenings and weekends and be able to attend the occasional off campus event. |
