    Greg Sisco

    Class of 2013

    Majors: Accounting

A major in accounting gave Greg Sisco ’13 more than just training in standard accounting practices.

“Accounting is a broad field, and at Franciscan I also got the tools and knowledge to understand business and economic principles,” he notes. Greg says his professors, “the cream of the crop,” were confident, caring, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure students understood the coursework.

As a student, Greg gained practical experience by volunteering six hours a week during a tax season to help local lower-income residents complete their tax returns. This gave him confidence in explaining accounting principles in layman’s terms, a skill that he relies on today.

With the help of a Franciscan University graduate, Greg was able to secure a summer internship at Protiviti the summer before his senior year. A global business and risk consulting company named by Experience, Inc., as one of the “Best Places to Work for Recent Grads,” Protiviti was also named “One of the Best Places to Launch a Career” by Bloomberg BusinessWeek. During his internship, Greg conducted internal audits and assisted companies with SOX audits. After proving himself, he was offered a job.

Now a business process consultant in Protiviti’s Seattle, Washington, office, Greg helps businesses reduce fraud and become more efficient, comply with regulations, and understand their current financial state.

By January 2015, Greg expects to have his CPA license, and he intends to earn his MBA in the next few years through Franciscan’s online program, which will allow him to balance studies with family life and work.
