Services Offered

After the initial assessment appointment a treatment plan is devised that may include any or all of the following:

Individual Counseling

Our services provide one-on-one confidential individual counseling for University students. The initial visit consists of a one-hour session with one of the professional staff counselors to assess the student’s problem. Based on this assessment, a treatment plan will be determined which may include further counseling with a professional staff counselor, graduate student counselor at Baron Health and Wellness Center: Counseling Services, or referral to a service provider in the Steubenville area.

Your counselor will bring his/her professional knowledge and experience to the session, but the ultimate responsibility for growth and change rests with you. You are invited at any time to ask questions about your counselor, the methods being used, and the direction that you are taking in treatment.

Depending upon the nature of your difficulty you might also experience uncomfortable emotions such as anger, fear, and frustration during the course of counseling. While your counselor cannot remove these feelings from you, he/she will help you work through them or find an alternative counselor. You are free to discontinue counseling at any time. Most people remain in therapy until they feel that they have learned better methods of thinking, feeling, and acting with regard to their difficulties.

Services are offered on a short-term basis, approximately 7 sessions. If a student requires additional counseling the appropriate referral can be arranged for a provider of services in the local Steubenville area.

Group Counseling

Groups will be offered depending on the needs and interests of the students. Please call the Counseling Center for more information on any of these groups.
