    Brief Bio

    Javier Carreño is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the Austrian Program of the Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he teaches courses in both philosophy and English literature. Born and raised in Colombia, Javier Carreño was educated at the Liceo de Cervantes, a school of the Augustinian order in Bogotá. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy and English at the University of Dallas, and was awarded the Fr. Cain – St. Thomas Aquinas medal for a thesis on Aristotle’s concept of imagination. Subsequently, at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, he obtained both a philosophy M.A. (with a thesis on Kierkegaard’s Philosophical Fragments) and a Ph.D. (with a dissertation on Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology of imagination). Javier Carreño has published articles in Husserl Studies, The New Yearbook for Phenomenology and Phenomenological Philosophy, The Yearbook on History and Interpretation of Phenomenology, Acta Fenomenológica Latinoamericana, and Tijdschrift voor Filosofie, as well as chapters in monographs such as Husserl-Lexikon (WBG: 2010), Religious Emotions: Some Philosophical Explorations (Cambridge SP, 2008), and Transcendence and Phenomenology (SCM, 2007). Javier Carreño is married to Bea, originally from Hungary. They raise their two children in their native languages.
